Bankroll Management
How to set a betting bankroll, size your bets, track results and survive the natural swings of sports betting.

Even good bettors go through losing stretches. Bankroll management is how you make sure a bad week doesn't become a bad month or a financial problem.
1. Set a dedicated bankroll
Your bankroll is money set aside only for betting, money you can afford to lose without affecting bills, savings or your life. Never top it up with money meant for anything else.
2. Bet a consistent, small amount
Use a fixed unit size so no single bet can hurt you.
3. Don't scale up after losses
Raising stakes to "get it back" is the fastest way to empty a bankroll. See Why Doubling Down Can Be Dangerous.
4. Track everything
Record every bet: date, sport, market, odds taken, platform, stake and result. Then review:
- Units and ROI: units won ÷ units risked
- Average odds: your record means nothing without the prices behind it
- Closing line value: did you consistently get better prices than where the market closed?
- By category: sport, market type, favorites vs. underdogs
A bet-tracking app like Pikkit (code JNARZ in our Betting Toolkit) makes this much easier.
5. Review on a schedule
Look at your numbers monthly. Small samples mislead in both directions.
Variance is normal
A well-priced bettor can still lose for weeks. Bankroll management doesn't make you a winner. It keeps you in the game long enough for good decisions to matter. If betting stops being fun or affordable, stop and visit our Responsible Gambling page.
