Props
How player and game prop markets work, why they can be softer than main lines, and what to watch for.

Props (proposition bets) are wagers on specific events within a game: a player's passing yards, strikeouts, points or shots on goal, or game events like the first team to score.
How they're priced
Most player props are an over/under on a stat line:
Example: Player C Over 64.5 receiving yards (-115)
Pick'em and fantasy-style apps may use different formats and payouts, so check how each platform pays.
Why props can offer value
- Volume: books post thousands of props, and pricing every one precisely is hard.
- Lower limits: less money backs these prices, so lines can stay off for longer.
- News sensitivity: a role change or injury can change a player's usage before every book adjusts.
What to watch for
- Higher margins: props often carry more vig than main markets, so line shopping matters even more.
- Medians vs. averages: yardage stats are skewed by big games. A player can average 70 yards and still go under 64.5 more often than you'd expect.
- Correlation: a quarterback's passing yards and his top receiver's yards are linked. Be careful stacking them.
Practical tips
Understand the role and usage behind the number, compare lines across platforms, and track your prop results separately from sides and totals.
